How to Take Better Mobile Pictures Part 1:
Nowadays in our technology-obsessed world, we don’t need to buy expensive camera equipment to take a great picture, especially when our phones have gotten so advanced. However, taking a great picture is not as simple as pointing and shooting. There’s a little more to it. So what’s the recipe for taking better mobile pictures and upping your Instagram game?
1) Use gridlines to balance your shot.
One of the easiest and best ways to improve your mobile photos is to turn on the camera’s gridlines. The gridlines you see on the screen are based on the rule of thirds — which is a photographic composition principle that the image should be broken down into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, having nine parts in total.
According to this theory, if you place the point of interest in these intersections or along the lines, your photo will be more balanced, level, and allow viewers to interact with it more naturally.
2) Focus on one subject.
The best pictures are the ones that include one interesting subject that can capture someone's attention. I believe that subjects shouldn’t necessarily fill the whole frame and that it should fall in the rule of thirds principle. Having that negative space helps the subject stand out more.
3) Embrace the negative space.
Negative space means leaving areas around and between the subjects of an image this will take your picture from good to great. If you include a lot of empty space in a picture, your subject will automatically stand out more and create a bolder reaction from your viewer.
